More Than Half Of Companies Say They Are Using Social Media With No Strategy

This is not a surprise but not wise . . . hard to gauge success of your efforts without a baseline and metrics in place.

While 78% percent of corporate respondents say their company is using social media, only 41% say they have a strategic plan in place to guide such activity, according to a new study from marketing firm Digital Brand Expressions.

    I’m not really surprised by these numbers.

    How many businesses do you know of that have a phone strategy, or an email strategy? I’m not saying that strategy is bad, but rather that companies often get bogged down in tactics, and are mostly excited by the ability to communicate in a new and different ways.

    I’d love to come back in five years and ask these same corporate respondents whether or not they’ve developed a strategy in that time.

    • Actually Joe they should have a strategy and email strategy falls under the overall marketing strategy.

      I work with companies on the strategy to make sure that efforts are intentional and they have a baseline. There are so many opportunities in social media … we try to avoid the “shiny light”.
